A spontaneous hour in Milan became a quiet study of light, shadow, and the first sense of trust between Vallie and me.

I met Vallie in Milano at the beginning of October, on one of those days when the city still holds on to summer. We had arranged to meet for just one hour, simply to get to know each other and see where the atmosphere would lead us. I arrived about half an hour early in a neighborhood I did not know yet, walking slowly, looking for corners, walls, gates, and small pockets of light that could give us a visual direction.

What I found was a residential area shaped by contrasts. Vertical bars, stone walls, deep shadows, and bright reflections created a setting that felt both graphic and intimate. The black and white treatment strengthens this feeling. It removes distraction and brings the focus back to expression, posture, texture, and the quiet tension between the person and the architecture around her.

Vallie has a presence that feels direct while still leaving room for silence. In some frames, her gaze meets the camera with a certain intensity; in others, she seems slightly withdrawn, almost caught in thought. I like this balance. The photographs do not try to explain too much. They leave space for mood, for silence, for the small distance between confidence and vulnerability.

Her presence gave the architecture a human rhythm.

The strongest part of this short session was how quickly everything began to flow. We moved from one wall to another, from shadow into sunlight, from close portraits to wider compositions where the city became part of the story. The hour passed almost unnoticed, which is usually a good sign. There was no need to force anything. We followed the light, the lines, and the feeling of the moment.

Looking back, I appreciate the simplicity of this meeting. No big plan, no long preparation, just curiosity, a warm October afternoon, and a shared openness to see what could happen. These photographs feel like the beginning of something, and I am very much looking forward to future collaborations with Vallie.
