During one of my BeInspired portrait workshops, I had the chance to create a powerful black-and-white series with Chiara. Her presence in front of the camera is both calm and captivating – a perfect match for the visual mood I aimed to achieve.
What makes this editorial so special to me is the subtle tension between softness and intensity. The lighting was kept minimalistic, allowing the shadows to breathe and giving the highlights space to shine through gently. It’s this balance that defines the emotional tone of the series – intimate, yet bold.
The contrast in the images isn’t harsh; it’s deliberate. I wanted to sculpt Chiara’s expressions and gestures using light and dark, not just to show her features, but to evoke a feeling – something more timeless than just a moment caught in time.
Karin Brönnimann’s professional touch brought everything together. Her make-up work emphasized Chiara’s natural elegance without ever overpowering her. It was the kind of collaboration where everything clicked, and I think you can feel that in every frame.
This series reminds me why I love working in black and white – stripping everything down to light, shadow, and soul.
