Spring can be unpredictable in the mountains, and so it was when Jana and I ventured to the Grimsel Pass for our photo session. At over 2,100 metres above sea level, the pass welcomed us with a cold, wet, and extreme weather front that created an atmosphere unlike any other.
Photographing in such conditions always presents a unique challenge, where flexibility, endurance, and creativity are pushed to their limits. Yet it is exactly this raw, unfiltered environment that lends the photographs their striking emotional depth. The misty mountains seem to absorb all sounds, leaving only the quiet strength of the moment. The images carry a sense of isolation, resilience, and delicate beauty — an intense dialogue between the model and the vast, dramatic landscape.

The Swiss Alps are a place of both raw power and serene beauty, especially when the weather shifts. On Grimsel Pass, sharp cliffs, rough stone fields, and endless stretches of mist open up a world that feels detached from time. The landscape’s rawness served not only as a backdrop but as a silent counterpart to the human presence within it. Every gust of wind, every low-hanging cloud, every drop of cold rain became part of the story.

The black-and-white photographs intensify the stark contrasts and textures of the scene, reducing the world to its essentials. Without the distraction of colour, the viewer is drawn directly into the emotional core of each image — the perseverance in Jana’s posture, the almost tangible chill of the mountain air, and the haunting silence of the mist-veiled peaks.
The series is titled “Beyond the Mist”, a tribute to the unseen and the stories that lie hidden within the mist.
