Sometimes, the best stories begin without a plan.

This spontaneous photo shoot with Laura came together unexpectedly while I was on my way home from a photography exhibition in Düsseldorf. Just before heading back to Switzerland, Laura reached out, and we decided—almost on a whim—to create a black-and-white photo series together. With only a loose idea in mind, we met in Luxembourg and began exploring the city with our cameras.

It wasn’t my first time in Luxembourg. I had visited once before and kept fond memories of the city’s unique charm. The historic old town, though small, offers a surprising variety of picturesque corners and textured backdrops that work wonderfully in portrait photography. Especially when the light is just right, the city reveals a certain cinematic beauty that feels both intimate and grand.

The image series we captured that day reflects this character—moody light, rich contrasts, and strong lines, all brought to life through the elegance of black-and-white photography. One image was taken on a bridge with dramatic late-afternoon light falling across Laura’s face, highlighting the intensity of her expression and the beautiful detail of her coat. Another photo was shot under a viaduct, where light and shadow danced softly over her shoulders and gave the frame a sense of quiet strength.

Laura was an incredibly sympathetic and intuitive model to work with. Despite the spontaneity, or maybe because of it, we found a great rhythm very quickly. The session felt natural, fluid, and full of mutual trust—which is something you can’t always plan for, but always hope to find.
