A quiet intimacy settled into the room during our last days in Paris, and everything slowed just enough to be felt.
Paris has a way of lowering the volume of the outside world, especially when you step inside and let the city remain only as a distant echo. This series with Chiara came together during one of those pauses—between mornings, between plans—when light enters gently and nothing asks to be performed. I wasn’t interested in documenting the trip itself, but in noticing what happens when presence replaces intention.
What makes these photographs special to me is their refusal to explain too much. They live in small gestures, in the way a body rests rather than poses, in how the frame breathes around her. The camera becomes less of a tool and more of a witness, allowing subtle shifts in posture, gaze, and breath to define the image. It’s in this restraint that the photographs find their strength.
Light played a quiet but decisive role throughout the series. Soft, indirect, almost hesitant—it wrapped itself around the scene instead of cutting through it. I worked with simplicity, trusting that the absence of spectacle would invite a deeper kind of attention. The grain, the shadows, the negative space all contribute to a feeling that is less about seeing and more about sensing.
The absence of spectacle invites a deeper kind of attention.
Chiara’s presence allowed for that openness. There was no need to fill the space with direction; we let the rhythm of the room guide us. These images aren’t about Paris as a place, but about a shared moment within it—fleeting, unrepeatable, and quietly honest. That atmosphere carries through the entire editorial, as more images unfold in the same restrained, intimate language.
