Somewhere in the World

In this editorial with Luana, I return to 2021 and to a day that stayed with me. We already knew each other a little better by then, after working together a few times in the months before. I appreciate Luana for her fresh, lively way of being: positive, curious, and open to whatever the day might bring. For this outing, we headed into the French-speaking part again, with the idea of visiting a lake I had heard about, one that freezes in winter and can be crossed on foot. I wanted to see that place, and Luana came along.

The journey itself became part of the series. The weather was unsettled, with light rain and an interruption that forced us into a short pause, and that pause opened the space for a more spontaneous way of working. On the road and at the roadside, the images stay close to us, but never feel forced. They carry the quiet movement of the day, the softness of the overcast light, and a sense of ease between us. The series has a restrained rhythm, yet it remains alive through small gestures and shifting moments of attention.

What stayed with me was the feeling of a shared day, calm and positive, when everything falls into place.
Somewhere in the World

Later, on the way back toward Fribourg, Luana suggested a beautiful stretch of beach she knew. In winter, it was completely empty, and that emptiness became part of its strength. The still water and the seasonal calm created an idyllic scene that inspired me strongly. What stayed with me was not only the landscape, but the feeling that formed around it: a shared day, a good mood, and the kind of positive energy that can emerge when everything falls into place. That is what I wanted to keep in these photographs.
