Facets

An exploration of presence, contrast, and the quiet power of transformation.

I wanted this series to feel like a slow reveal rather than a fixed statement, allowing space for nuance and contradiction. Sophia has a natural ability to shift her energy, and instead of narrowing that down, I leaned into it. The camera became a place where softness and strength could coexist without explanation. What interested me most was not choosing a single version of her, but letting several truths appear side by side.

Throughout the session, I consciously moved between different facets of her presence. From a relaxed, almost everyday styling that feels open and unguarded, to a darker, more vamp-like expression marked by strength and dominance. These transitions were not staged as opposites, but as parts of the same continuum. Each shift in posture or gaze subtly altered the atmosphere, reminding me how fluid identity can be when given room to breathe.

I wasn’t searching for one look, but for the tension between many.

The session itself was entirely spontaneous, unfolding in Hamburg without long preparation or rigid expectations. I had met Sophia through a test shoot for her model agency, and there was an immediate sense of ease and trust. That familiarity allowed us to work intuitively, responding to the moment rather than forcing a concept. Improvisation became part of the language of the images.

All photographs were created in an improvised studio setting, pared down to the essentials. Light, shadow, and a quiet background were enough to hold the space. This simplicity sharpened the focus on expression and body language, letting each facet surface without distraction. In the end, the series feels less like a portrait of a single mood and more like a conversation between many, held together by honesty and restraint.
