A City Holding Us

Many years ago, I met Carina, and from that very first moment a collaboration began that would shape my photographic path in lasting ways. This weekend in Venice brought us back to our beginnings and reopened the space for those familiar, emotional images that can only emerge through deep trust.

These works carry the imprint of a weekend in which trust and the city became quiet companions. Venice surrounded us with its breathing tapestry of waterlines and worn stone, yet the true familiarity lay in our shared history. Carina—my first international model—has shaped my development as a photographer more than almost anyone else. In the way she moved and paused, I sensed an echo of those early days gently following us.

Under the arcades, that familiar mixture of calm and inner tension revealed itself—something that only arises when two people have worked together for years. Carina lowered her gaze as if listening to the murmuring city, and I followed the subtle emotional transitions that form the core of my visual language. Nothing needed to be explained. No impulse was lost. We worked deliberately, intuitively, almost wordlessly—held by a trust forged over years.

A connection that continues to breathe in every frame.

By the water, the atmosphere deepened. Carina leaned against the wooden structure, steady yet focused, while the city behind her dissolved into bright shimmer. In that moment, I was reminded once again how much this connection sharpens my way of seeing: trust reveals posture without forcing it. It allows room for clarity and invites the kind of quiet in which emotion becomes visible.

At the end of this weekend, I realized how much this series returns to my roots. Images like these don’t come from luck or chance—they arise from a familiarity that makes every pose unnecessary. Carina and I didn’t simply move through Venice; we rediscovered our story within it. Perhaps that is the true core of this work: a connection that continues to breathe in every frame.
